The title of this post is not overly-exaggerated click bait. This recipe will seriously only take ten minutes of your time – in fact, it’s the easiest recipe I use.
Of course, it takes 3-8 hours after you prep it to cook it.
It seems to me that the longer something takes to cook, the easier it is to make. If you plan ahead an hour or two – or eight – quite often all you have to do is toss ingredients together and put them in the oven or crockpot.
Potatoes are a good example. They take forever to cook. I heard a comedian say, “Sometimes I’ll toss a potato in the oven, even when I don’t want one, because by the time it’s done, who knows?” But they are so easy.
People who hate cooking scramble to find 30 minute recipes, but those recipes always involve standing over a stove for 30 minutes straight. No wonder they hate it. This recipe goes in the crock pot on high for 3-4 hours or on low for 6-8 hours, and it takes less than ten minutes to make. All you have to do is plan ahead. Personally, I have a list on a chalkboard of all the meals I can make with what’s in my kitchen, and I decide during breakfast which one I’m going to do. And maybe if people had delicious meals like this in their fridge instead of stale take-out, we would eat our leftovers more often. But this recipe has more to do with not wasting money. We all want quick, quick, quick, and quite often that means take-out, pizza and freezer meals. If instead of quick we focused on easy, there would be a lot more meals like my Green Chili Tacos and a lot less eating out. It takes me three times as long to pick up a pizza than it takes for me to make these tacos, and it’s a fraction of the cost. NOTE: This is recipe has both a bland version for kids (omit the chili powder and the cayenne) and a spicier version. Since everyone has different preferences on flavor, I kept the recipe flexible.
